Kathmandu: The Kathmandu Valley Police Office (KVPO) has issued a cautionary advisory, urging the public to refrain from venturing into crowded places while carrying valuable items. The KVPO emphasized the need for special precautions in crowded areas due to the heightened risk of theft.
As part of an 11-point advisory, especially relevant during festivals like Tihar, the KVPO aimed to raise awareness about potential risks and advised citizens to take preventive measures against incidents such as theft and looting. The advisory was issued to enhance law and order and ensure public safety during the festivals of Tihar, Nepal Sambat, and Chhath.
The police urged the public to avoid organizing or participating in gambling or dice games involving monetary transactions. Senior Superintendent Dinesh Raj Mainali, the spokesman for KVPO, mentioned that special police teams were deployed to monitor and control activities related to firecrackers, smuggling, violence, theft, and gambling.
Increased surveillance by the Traffic Police aimed to control undesirable activities in the transport sector during the festive period. The KVPO advisory also warned against transporting explosive materials like firecrackers, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and consuming food offered by strangers.
Citizens were advised not to carry cash, expensive items, jewelry, or high-value mobile phones when in crowded areas. Additionally, the KVPO recommended ensuring the secure closure of doors and windows when leaving homes or shops, installing locks with sirens, and informing neighbors and local police if away for an extended period.
The public was encouraged to make payments through digital technology, secure their mobile banking OTP, and avoid updating personal and travel information on social media platforms. The advisory aimed to promote public awareness and cooperation to maintain a safe and secure environment during the festive season.
